Refractive Surgery

As a provider of both refractive and cosmetic procedures since 1987, SoCal Eye is proud to be one of Southern California’s premier vision centers. We perform a wide variety of procedures—from femtosecond all-laser LASIK to multifocal refractive lens exchange and corneal transplants—on people from all over the U.S. Over 80% of our patients are referred to us by either their doctors or other happy patients. We provide optimal individualization by customizing and matching each patient to the best procedure. For the past 50 years, the staff at SoCal Eye have worked as a team to provide the most conservative, caring, and comfortable eye care experience possible.

Understanding Vision

Myopia (nearsightedness) occurs when the eye focuses objects in front of the retina. Distant objects become blurred, but near vision is usually preserved.
Hyperopia (farsightedness) occurs when objects are focused behind the retina. Typically, objects that are far away are more clear than those that are close. Difficulty usually begins with reading vision.
Astigmatism is caused by the cornea having an oval rather than round curvature. Objects are focused at more than one point, affecting both distance and near vision.
Presbyopia affects most people over age 40, making reading difficult. The cause is a loss of elasticity in the eye’s crystalline lens.

Millions of people worldwide have successfully undergone laser refractive surgery, and the number continues to grow. For most patients, all-laser LASIK is the procedure of choice. However, we can provide guidance about other surgical options, including Advanced Surface Ablation (also called Flapless LASIK or PRK). Multifocal Implants are another exciting technology that can give patients clear vision for distance, intermediate, and reading.
