Oculoplastic surgery, a specialized area of ophthalmology focused on the health of the eyelids, orbit, tear ducts and other structures around the eye and is used to treat conditions ranging from drooping eyelids and removal of cancerous and non-cancerous lesions from around the eye. While oculoplastic surgery is often medically necessary, many people choose to have surgery for purely cosmetic reasons.
At SoCal Eye, our oculoplastic surgeons are committed to enhancing both the functionality and appearance of the eyes. We understand that Oculoplastic Surgery is very personal decision and our doctors will take time to explain all procedures and answer all questions.
Oculoplastic Surgery Conditions treated by SoCal Eye:
Our oculoplastic surgeons provide care for patients with a variety of conditions, including:
- Ptosis: Drooping of the upper eyelid
- Entropion: The upper or lower eyelid turns inward, causing the skin and eyelashes to rub against the eye
- Ectropion: The lower eyelid sags and turns out, resulting in exposure of the eyeball
- Eyelid growths: Benign or malignant growths on the eyelid or face
- Blepharoptosis: Excess eyelid skin or extra fat above and below the eyes
- Injuries: Trauma that affects the eye or eyelid
Our team also offers surgical and non-surgical cosmetic services to address the signs on aging, like fine lines and wrinkles and sagging around the eyes.
Oculoplastic Procedures & Treatments
The most common procedures performed by SoCal Eye include:
Blepharoplasty – Eyelid Surgery
Excess eyelid skin and lowering of the eyebrows can make you look older, tired and/or distressed. While this occurs as a part of aging for many people, upper eyelid heaviness and drooping skin can also occur at an early age. More than just a cosmetic problem, this change in facial structure can gradually affect your vision, as the excess skin may reduce your peripheral vision or cause issues with overall eye health. A blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as a lid lift, is a common oculoplastic procedure. The goal of a lid lift is to remove the excess skin from the upper or lower eyelids, reducing the “baggy” appearance around the eyes and restoring any lost function.
Injectables and Facial Fillers
Dermal Fillers have been a part of SoCal Eye’s Ophthalmology practice in Long Beach for over 20 years. Initially dermal fillers were developed by Ophthalmologists for clinical ophthalmic purposes around the eyes but in recent years these treatments have gone mainstream as voluntary cosmetic treatments. Today they are a recognized and FDA approved solution to aging and SoCal Eye Ophthalmologists with their extensive knowledge of facial structures and facial skin are still the best suited for providing these services.
